When I first told my family I was starting this blog my father ask me how political it was going to be. At the time I was a little afraid I would scare people away from my blog if I included too many political thoughts. But at the same time I knew the link between food, politics, and religion could not be ignored. Some of you may have no idea what I’m talking about and others may be nodding your heads as you read this.
We were given the great blessing of the Word of Wisdom long before any of us were born, we have been taught that since this world was created Satan has worked relentlessly to steal away our freedoms, and as children we learned about Daniel and his choice not to eat the King’s meat. From this religion and food are connected, as well as politics.
When we read the Word of Wisdom we see a list of do’s and don’ts. These do’s and don’ts give us a great deal of insight into what foods we should and shouldn’t put into our bodies. There is a tremendous amount of controversy over what a healthy diet is. Should we follow the FDA’s food guide pyramid? Would it be healthier to be vegetarian, or vegan? Is tea really as healthy as society says it is? What about a glass of wine? All of these questions and many more can be answered through studying D&C 89 and prayer. But there is more to these verses than just which foods to eat. The Word of Wisdom begins with a warning….
“Behold, verily, thus saith the Lord unto you: In consequence of evils and designs which do and will exist in the hearts of conspiring men in the last days, I have warned you, and forewarn you, by giving unto you this word of wisdom by revelation—“
Now here is where God gets political. And this is the grounds I stand on for making this blog, and my facebook page full of political food and health statements. God began his food guidlines by warning us of the evil in others, by warning us of people who don’t care about our health, by warning us of plans made by powerful people to compromise our ability to be healthy.
Now this is where many of you may decide you don’t like me very much. Your probably thinking “Wow don’t we have enough to worry about! Satan is attacking the family, and the moral fiber of our great nation. There are wars, and rumors of wars. I really don’t want to have to be worried about conspiring men plotting against my health.”… and yet here we are in a nation plagued by diseases our grandparents never heard of. Cancer, aids, heart disease, MS, and allergies to name a few.
We can sadly claim to live in a time when the lifespan of our children is predicted to be shorter than our own. We clear the shelves of hostess products out of fear, or sugar addiction, that we may never see a twinkie again. I don’t know about you but all of this makes me sick and very worried for our future.
We also claim to live in a time of the greatest medical advancement. Shouldn’t that also mean the greatest ability to heal? Now I’m not saying that I am not deeply grateful for life saving heart surgeries and the like. I am very grateful for that medical technology. Without it, I would have lost my grandfather before I really knew him, and my husband would have lost a rambunctious little nephew. However, I am not grateful for depression medication, or hormonal birth control. I think we would all be better off without those things. (I have experienced the extremely negative effects of both of these types of drugs on myself as an individual and on my family) Now you may be thinking, “Yeah right! I wouldn’t have survived without depression meds, and there is no way I want another kid! I already have 6!” (I am still desperately searching for a form of nonhormonal birthcontrol that is completely safe from pregnancy and safe from side effects…. there is none to be found that isn’t permananent) This is where Satan restricting our freedoms through conspiring men comes into play…. What if there was another way to heal the depressed or control births. What if cancer could be healed with diet, and sore throats healed with honey? Would we know about them? And if we did would we think it was quackery? Depending on what you think of the pharmacuetical companies your answer to those questions may vary.
As for me I wholeheartedly believe, to spite any benefit pharmacueticals may have, that pharmacuetical companies conspire against our health, and therefore those companies are a part of the conspiring men we have been warned about.
Now how do politics connect with the pharmacuetical companies? It is common knowedge that major corporations pay off politicians. And pharmacuticals are very BIG business! So the pharmacuetical companies are motivated to keep you buying pharmacueticals, and politicians are motivated to oblige them. Let me give you an example…. Did you know that it is illegal for a doctor to treat cancer by changing the patients diet? Look it up. To get that kind of cure you have to leave the country.
Now lets look at the other side of this coin. We are offered a cure, or a drug. It gets approved by the FDA. They are suppose to be on our side right? But they just like the politicians are paid off, or have another motive, like previously being vice president of a pharmacuetical company. So can we really trust them? I think our warning was clear. We need to be aware of what we put in our bodies. We need to study it out ourselves and not just trust what we are spoon fed by the government and media.
I think I have made my beliefs about the pharmacuetical companies clear. Now to move to the next element of our health demisse… Let’s talk about food. You also have to be very careful who you trust about your food.
Where does your food come from? Most of it no doubt comes from your local grocer. I promise I’m not going to attack them. They are just a vehicle unknowingly used by one of many culprits. Well, mostly…
So lets back things up a little. Where does your food really come from? Most of it comes from a seed, or an egg, or is born from the womb of its mother. And where do our seeds come from? Did the farmer collect seeds from the previous years harvest like days of old? Most of the time no. Our seeds are increasingly being bought from infamous big businesses such as Monsanto. If you don’t know what kind of business Monsanto runs then you should know that they develop chemicals like pesticides, and round up. They also create GMO’s (genetically modified organisms) and they buy the right to patent seeds.
So the farmer buys the seeds, or feeds the crops grown from these seeds, that were bought from big corrupt businesses to the animals we later eat. The farmer also applies pesticides, and herbicides to these crops and gives hormones and antibiotics to the animals. And then after all of this chemical, genetic, and medical manipulation this so called food makes its way into our mouths, and into our children’s mouths. And we still think we ought to live longer than our grandparents?
So now let’s talk agency… Agency to choose, and the agencies that stop us from choosing. Our God given right to have freedom of choice, and Satan’s plan to destroy it. Why can’t I buy a muffin from my neighbor that she made in her kitchen? Why can’t I go down the street and buy milk straight from the dairyman that I know and trust? Why can’t I sell my homemade preserves without having to be govenment inspected and meet all of their requirements? If the consumer knows and trusts where the food is coming from. If they want to see and know how their beef was fed and raised then why can’t they also choose to buy it that way? Doesn’t it seem a bit ridiculous to control food in such a way that it denies us the freedom to eat it, or grow it, or sell it? What happened to our agency?
“If we are not even free anymore to decide something as basic as what we wish to eat or drink, how much freedom do we really have left?” Dr. Ron Paul
I’m sure God did not intend for it to be that way. So why all the legislation? Who benefits from this? You better believe someone does…. Businesses like Walmart, and Costco to name a couple. If everyone bought all of their food from their neighbors neither of those businesses, along with many others, would exsist. People would make more money running their own little bakery, or cheese factory than they do working at Walmart, families would be happier, and our communities would be healthier.
We have been instructed and commanded over and over to plant gardens and to build up our food storage.
We could talk in length about the benefits of gardening. There is every reason from teaching children responsibility, to saving a few bucks. There are reasons such as quality control, and the fact that dirt realeases good natural chemicals that make us happy. There is also the reason that God thinks it is important to be self sufficient, and we ought to as well. The only way to be self sufficient is to take steps in learning how, before we really need to be. And finally, God wants us to be secure. He wants us to hold onto freedom and if we are in a situation where we have to get our food from FEMA then we aren’t making our own decisions anymore, and our freedom is lost.
If you look to the history of wars, one of the very first things the attacking group does is to cut off the food supply. You can look to history books or too the scriptures to see that happen over and over again. We still use that tactic today and cut off trade to countries we disagree with. Food is a key to our freedom and our agency. We need to make sure we are in control of our own ability to eat, and survive.
Unfortuantely history also teaches us that people are greedy. They sacrifice the welfare of others to get their own personal gain. It happens everyday in many ways, big and small, and food is most certainly not exempt from this. If we control our own food supply we avoid becoming victim to someone elses effort to save a buck at the expense of our health.
This also applies to medicine. I felt so liberated the first time I used garlic to treat a babies ear infection. Such a little thing has saved me so much expense and also saved the gut flora of my babies. This is just one example. There are often other better ways to heal our bodies. Ways our doctors are not taught about and the pharmacuetical companies would rather not tell us. Ways our grandmothers surely knew. It is time to return to these ways, for our health and for our agency.
God told Adam to till the earth. So till I will. God told us to dung our trees. So I will choose poop over chemicals. God told us to eat herbs. So I will load up another serving of salad. There is undoubtedly a link between food, politics, and religion. Let’s all do our part to recognize when our food is being effected by politics, and then thank God for D&C 89 and the warning it contains.
