I am a pie fan. But if I had to choose my favorite kind I think I would be torn between Apple Pie and Pumpkin Pie.
Today I was in an Apple Pie mood. So here is a super yummy Real Food recipe you have to try.
Crust:
3 C. Sprouted wheat flour
1 1/4 C. Organic butter (preferably grass-fed)
1 tsp. Sea salt
Mix that together with a pastry cutter.
Make a hole in mixture and add:
1 Egg (beaten)
6 Tbs. Ice water
Mix and roll out. Makes 4 single crusts.
Pie Filling:
1 C. Maple syrup
1/2 tsp. Cinnamon
1/4 tsp. Nutmeg
1/4 tsp. Sea salt
2 Tbs. Sprouted wheat flour
5 C. Apples
1 tsp. Lemon juice (for tartness)
2 Tbs. Butter
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Combine flour, spices, and salt. Add apples and lemon juice. Mix together until evenly coated. Roll out the pie crusts and put into pie plate. Put the apple mixture into the pie crust. Then drizzle all of the maple syrup onto it. Dot it with butter. Moisten rim with water. Adjust top crust. Bake 400 Degrees for 50-60 mins.
