Canning Applesauce? or want to can applesauce. We have tons of apples. We’re so lucky to have an orchard ourselves and two grandmas with orchards and apples to spare. Around here there are apples everywhere…along with dried apples, apple sauce, more dried apples…and more applesauce. It is pretty simple.
Things you’ll need to can applesauce:
Apples, Apples, and more Apples
Canning jars and lids
Flats
Cold pack canner
Food Strainer. (We like this one)
Nesco cooker (we loved using this but if you don’t have one you can use a large pot or the cold pack canner)
The Process:
Step by step on how to can applesauce:
Step 1: Cut up the apples in quarters. Place in Nesco cooker with about 3 pints of water in with the apples.(also add water under the main pan as it states in the directions for the nesco cooker). Cook at 400 degrees for 1-2 hours or until soft.
Step 3: Fill the jars. With the honey pot this is super easy because of the handy dandy opening. If you are using a normal pot, scoop out with a measuring cup and use a canning funnel. Leave about a half inch on the top without applesauce.
Step 4: Wipe tops of jars clean. Place flats on jars and screw the lids on.
Step 5: Place jars in cold pack canner. Add water so that it is covering the jars. Bring pot to a boil. Let boil for 20 minutes. Remove jars. Let cool. Store.
